activation request failed. exchange 2007 + bps 4.1 + no bb data plan

hi,

newbie to bb and professional software...

some questions regarding bb data plans and bps 4.1 on exchange 2007.
after downloading and installing bps 4.1 i'm trying to do the enterprise activation on one bb device (8100) and i get "

activation request failed. a service connection is unavailable" i already did the server part according to the BlackBerry Professional Software Installation Tool Kit on the bb site.

i do not have any kind of bb plan!! only normal/internet data plan.

do i need some bb plan?

regards

Re: activation request failed. exchange 2007 + bps 4.1 + no bb data plan

You must have the BlackBerry enterprise data plan BES and not the prosumer BIS plan.

A generic data plan will not work for over tha air activations on a carriers network.

No.  For the device to continue to function wirelessly with the BPS server you must have an Enterprise data plan provisioned at all times.

Re: activation request failed. exchange 2007 + bps 4.1 + no bb data plan

1.so do i have to subscribe to a bes data plan (€35,88 euros/month)?
2. bis data plan is not enough? (12,50euro/month)

my advantage of having the professional server is just to synchronize  (besides email) calendar, address book? or do i have any more substantial advantage because the monthly difference in terms of money is hard to justify…

i thought if i bought bps i could  have a normal internet only plan or at least maintain my existing bis data plan...11

>> Correct, it is not.  To be on BES or BPS you need the Enterprise /BES data plan
