BES 5.0 default IT policy assignment

Is there a way to force all new users added to a BES 5.0 server to use one particular IT policy without having to go back and assign them whatever default policy you want to use?

Re: BES 5.0 default IT policy assignment

I make a copy of the default policy and save it as orig. Then I modify the default policy after.

I did not try this with 5.0 yet, but works like a charm with 4.1

Re: BES 5.0 default IT policy assignment

Hi,

Seem like what you would like to do is Groups. Create groups and assign Roles, Policies and Software Configurations to the group as a whole. Check the Admin Guide in 5.0 for more info. Here is where you can get it:

Re: BES 5.0 default IT policy assignment

I know how to create groups and assign policies, etc.  What I'd like to see happen is if our help desk creates a new users I'd like to see those new users automatically get assigned to a deafult group thus also receiving our standrad default IT policy.  Instead of them having to create a user and then assign them to a group.

Re: BES 5.0 default IT policy assignment

I am having the same problem.  I have restricted my helpdesk users to only be allowed to view certain groups, so when the helpdesk adds a user, the user that was added by default will not go into any group which causes the helpdesk staff to not be able to manage the user until I go in and put the user they have added into a group they have access to.  It would be nice if you can either have a default group that gets assigned to any user added to the BES or at least allow the helpdesk staff to choose what group to add the user to while creating the account.  I called RIM about this today (12/10/09) and they are looking into it, I will follow up to let you know what the outcome is.  If anyone knows anything else please let me know.

Re: BES 5.0 default IT policy assignment

Quick update to my previous post...

RIM has identified that there is a problem with group assignments/Rold Based Administration.  They have sent my issue to software developement and reviewing it today.  They said they are going to give me an update before the end of day today on what actions to take.
