Calendary sync issue after applying BES v5 SP3

Help!  I have spent a month trying to resolve a calendar sync issue.  I initially installed a new BES v5.0.3 server using a v5.0.3 installer.  I could not get the device calendar to sync back to Outlook.  I opened a ticket with tech support and went through CDO configuration and service account permissions - they couldn't find anything wrong with either.  Finally, I was told to roll back to v5.0.2.  Well, this was installed using v5.0.3.  So, I blew away the server all together and rebuilt from scratch using the v5.0.2 installer.  Calendar two way sync works hunky dory.  Applied MR5, still, everything works.  I have backed up the hard disk and the database, then applied SP3.  I'm back to calendar one way sync!  Anyone else experience this?  It's still broken after applying MR4.  Looks like I'll be rolling back to v5.0.2 MR5, and plan on keeping a test server around to test patches from RIM before applying them to a production server and be down for several hours after discovering a patch broke functionality.

Right.  Exchange 2003 SP2.  MAPI and CDO match the versions on my Exchange servers.  Everything works on my v4.1.5 BES.  I'm bringing up a new v5 server, and everything worked in v5.0.2, but calendary sync broke as soon as I applied SP3.

Re: Calendary sync issue after applying BES v5 SP3

Whats the error message in the MAGT log? Create a test calendar appt on the BlackBerry.  Obtain the refid of the appt that does not sync by opening the calendar appt, holding down the alt button and typing view.   Note what the EVNT UID is and search for it in the MAGT log.  Then post the MAGT log lines.  Also, after the upgrade, check to see if the CDO is registered properly on BES.  http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB04912

What version is CDO.dll on the BES?

MAPI/CDO 6.5.7654.12 is the supported version for BES 5.0.3.

Re: Calendary sync issue after applying BES v5 SP3

MAPI/CDO are v6.5.7654.12.  CDO is registered.

The app log on the BES server shows a warning event ID 20216.  {alias@domain.com} Synchronize() Failed: ERR_FAIL, Tag=814

The MAGT log has a ton of entries corresponding to the same time this is logged in the event log.  Here is a condensed view - only displaying one attempt - not all the attempts one entry tries:

Re: Calendary sync issue after applying BES v5 SP3

Thanks knottyrope

I found this one last night, rebooted both DC/GC servers.. still same issue..

IEMSTest pass ok..
AD permissions ok - checked 20 times
EX permisions ok - as above
MAGT log indicate CDO Helper initialise problems, and the same event id 20216...

My love affair with Blackberry is waning....... Smiley Happy

Re: Calendary sync issue after applying BES v5 SP3

I have run into this KB from RIM.  My file version is much newer than the one included in the hotfix, so I'm assuming I'm ok.  I believe this was a hotfix released after Windows 2003 SP1, which was then an included fix in SP2.  Samsrv.dll is at v5.2.3790.3959, and the MS KB shows the patched version is 01-Oct-2003 5.2.3790.89
