since the installation of my server, I experience I very high memory usage on my BES 5.
The server is running on Windows Server 2008 Standard x64 with 4GB of Ram and hosting 97 users. Local SQL database. BES is the only application this server is being used for.
we have constantly 75-90% of the RAM used, when I browse through the processes, these are the ones taking the most resources:
BAS-AS.exe 499,850 K
sqlservr.exe 435,640 K
bmds.exe 226,300 K
The sqlservr.exe is going up to 700-900MB from time to time. I already tried to resolve this issue by installing:
- SQL Service Pack 3 for 2005
- BES 5 MR4
- BES 5.0.1
- BES 5.0.1 MR1
But the RAM usage is still very high.
How can I troubleshoot this best?
Thanks a lot.

what does it look like when you reboot the BES server?
Are you running SQL express, MSDE or full SQL?
BESAdmin's, please make a signature with your BES environment info.
BES 12 and BES 5.0.4 with Exchange 2010 and SQL 2012 Hyper V

After a reboot the sqlservr.exe starts with about 110,000k and then grows form day to day, after 2 weeks, 90% of the physical memory are being used and the server has to be rebooted again.
The server is running with the sql that was coming with the BES installation.
Any ideas to get rid of this? Putting the sql databse external maybe? is there an instruction from Blackberry to do this?

We are experiencing this exact same issue on our BES 5 server. The server OS is 2008 64bit and it’s running on VMWare.
Have you found any resolutions to this issue as we have to reboot about every 2-3 days. The server never stops working completely it just has intermittent issues with different users all the time, email stops or calendar will not sync correctly or contact issues but it all goes away as soon as we reboot. I have ran permission tests on users and checked every configuration I can think of and nothing helps.

good to know that we're not the only ones with this issue
I'm already working with RIM support on this, but it doesnt seem that we're close to a solution...
As a next step, I will put the SQL database external to another SQL server, to see if this resolves the issue.
But the BAS-AS.exe is also growing from day to day...
Did you already log a ticket at RIM?

I plan to log a ticket later today.
I really don't think it’s the VM environment, we have many (100+) system running on our VM environment and this is the first server experiencing an issue like this one. Also BES is certified to run on VMWare so I would expect it to not have an issue with VMWare.

you're using 64bit as well, right?
What version of MAPI32.dll is the BES using?
And how did you install the Components?
Because I had a problem. The BES log says it is using the MAPI32.dll from c:\windows\system32, so I placed the 6.5 mapi there. The log still told me it is using 1.0.
Found out that I needed place the 6.5 MAPI in c:\windows\syswow64 and after that the BES log showed 6.5
There is no Blackberry documentation about this anywhere. The MAPI instructions are all talking about c:\windows\system32 on the blackberry KBs.
But for 64bit this seems to be different.
Anyway, this doesnt solve our problem :-(

We also are running BES Ex. on 2008 64bit VMWare and are also experiencing an issue with BAS-AS.exe utilizing high memory. Seems to be the same symptoms.... Have to reboot every couple of weeks.
I was wondering if you guys were able to find a resolution to this issue.
Thanks for your help,

We are expereiencing exactly the same issue.
We are running BES 5.0.2 on a VMWare environment.
Every 2-3 weeks I need to reebot the system to free up memory. Does anyone has a soulution for this?
Thanks in advance
