License trade up from 10.0 to 10.1

I have a question about the license trade up.

We currently have 80 device licenses traded up, however we are still running on BES 10.0.  If we do not upgrade that server before Dec 31, do those upgraded licenses become invalid?

I ask because on the trade up info it says that you need to upgrade AND activate a device by the end of the year.  Even if we get the upgrade done before the end of the month we will only have about 60 devices active on it.  I don't want us to have 20 more licenses become worthless afterwords.

Just looking for clarification.
