Lost connection between BES and Exchange Server due to Exchange rebooting

Exchange is on a Windows 2008 box.  BES is on a Windows 2003 box.

When the Exchange Server reboots for any reason, the BES looses connection the Exchange Server requiring me to reboot the BES, or restart the BB Services on the BES server.  Is this by design or is there a way to make the BES re-authenticate and not have to restart it when the connection between the two Servers is broken due to the Exchange Server rebooting?

I find this happens when Microsoft issues an update and reboots my Exchange Server!  Any help is appreciated.

Re: Lost connection between BES and Exchange Server due to Exchange rebooting

Been that way for years. I thought BES 5.0 would have fixed it.

Schedule your updates so BES does it last or write a script to do it.

Re: Lost connection between BES and Exchange Server due to Exchange rebooting

This is due to a limitation in MAPI. When the Exchange server is rebooted, the MAPI connections to the mailboxes are lost. It isn't capable of dynamically re-establishing the connections. Rebooting the operating system reinitialized MAPI and allows the BlackBerry messaging agents to reconnect to the mailbox.

The only stupid question is the one you don't ask before you reboot the BES.

I appreciate the responses.  At least now, I know it is nothing I am doing wrong and have a valid explanation to give to Management!

Yeah it would be nice if Exchange would stop using Mapi

Re: Lost connection between BES and Exchange Server due to Exchange rebooting

BES losing connection with Exchange is no different than Exchange's tendency to throw a fit if it loses connection with the GC.

I've goten into the habit of patching and rebooting in that order:

GC

all other DCs

Exchange

SQL

BES

All other servers.
