Major Frustrations with 10.1.3 upgrade

Hi,

I am having all sorts of issues upgrading Blackberry Enterprise Service 10 to update 3 (10.1.3)

I have tried to upgrade about 10 times and each time fails at the very end with the message of An Error Occured during the installation process and the // did not complete. The event logs don't give much information other than an error about failing to set named attribute

I have even tried a complete re-install, again issues.

Any ideas?

Why does blackberry make it so difficult.

Re: Major Frustrations with 10.1.3 upgrade

Hi Swells,

the error "CBDSDBComp failed to validate" sounds like there is an issue to get to the database(s).

What is your current situation, do you have the old version still running?

Does it use a local or remote SQL database. Is the connection OK?

If it's remote (or SQL local pre-installed) does the service account, which runs the installation, have the right permissions?

kind regards

dvasselt

Same boat here...I've tried dozens of time to do the upgrade from 10.1 and still have issues. I totally agree that Blackberry doesn't make the upgrades as intuitive and straightforward as possible. Will be opening a ticket with them later this morning.

Re: Major Frustrations with 10.1.3 upgrade

Did you use the BESAdmin service account to install it?

Re: Major Frustrations with 10.1.3 upgrade

Yes. I used our own service account (bes10admin). Installer log error points to something to do with the UDS install. There's actually a documented KB from Blackberry in regards to my issue:

http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/viewdocument.do?externalId=KB34916&sliceId=2&cmd=displayKC&d...

No resolution as development team is apparently still working on a fix...

Re: Major Frustrations with 10.1.3 upgrade

Hi,

I'm having the exact same problem, i have submitted the logs to the blackberry support team and the first attempt i did was not using the same account i used to install Bes 10.1.2. After that I switched to the blackberry account i got stock at the end of the installation with almost the same lines in the logs files submited on this thread. The support team think that the fact that i used the wrong account at the beginning has something to do with the faillure at the end of the installation, i'm going to retry the update tomorrow with the support on the phone and if we manage to get this running i'll post the sollution that worked for me.

One thing i notice is that the software itself it is fully installed on the server when it fails but i suspect that it has something to do with initializing the blackberry services (Not enough permissions?)

Windows server 2008 R2

Curretntly installed: BES 10.1.2

Updating to 10.1.3

Remote server database is in use

Re: Major Frustrations with 10.1.3 upgrade

It could be permissions but the account that I'm using is part of the local admin group and is a database owner for the BES10 DB. Please do post if you find a resolution.

this posting sounds like that if you used the "wrong" (not besadmin) account for the installation attempt once, all other attempts will fail (even with the "right" user):
