Hi Guys

we are trying to gert answers to the following questions on a BES 5.0 server

Do you have any information on how to set up or achieve any of the following at all?

  • Control OS version, is it possible to control what OS is in use for all the registered handsets, and force them to upgrade as and when required.

  • Manage the size of the event logs on each handset.

  • Disable Java Script.

  • Disable Embedded Media.

  • Enable Memory cleaning.

Your advise will be much appreciated

Kind Regards

  • Manage the size of the event logs on each handset. NO

  • Disable Java Script. Not that I remember.

  • Disable Embedded Media. Possible but what are you trying to block?

  • Enable Memory cleaning. YES

Re: Policies On BES 5

you would be better off setting up a web proxy for BES and remove access to other browsers.

then with your web filter you can block any content you wish

Re: Policies On BES 5

IT Policies > Browser > Disable Java Script in Browser

IT Policies > Memory Cleaner > Force Memory Clean when idle

There are no policies for the other two things.

Re: Policies On BES 5

Hi Guys

Thanks for your advice earlier

Just another question regarding the event log. I understand it is not possible via BES to manage the size of event logs on each handset. BUt is there a possiblity to clear the event logs every week or monthly? or manually force delete the logs from handset when the admin wants?

Please advise

Kind Regards

Faisal

Re: Policies On BES 5

There is no possibility for that.
What is the reason you are asking for that?
The event Logs will be cleaned up by the device itself, I've never seen that a device runs out of free space due to the device logs.

Re: Policies On BES 5

You can clear the event log on the device, here is how:

  • Go to the event log (alt-lglg)
  • Click the Menu button an choose "Clear Log"

You can only do that on the device, there is no central management of the eventlog.
