We have set up a new BES 5 server and are having an issue getting the proxy configuration to work as expected. We have followed KB18680 and configured the proxy as it states, but whenever a device browses the web, it seems to ignore this setting and just use the local capabilities of the BES server to browse. How do we force devices to use the proxy that is configured? The rest of the BES functionality is working as expected.
Cheers in advance.

We are using BlackBerry browser and have used policy to remove the internet browser.
When we try and surf the web we were not seeing any error messages to begin with and Network traces showed that the device was ignoring the proxy configuration and the data was heading directly for the firewall. As soon as we restricted http / https traffic from the BES server to the firewall, we started getting connection timed out errors on the device.
When we log directly onto the BES server, and configure the proxy we are able to browse as expected.
On the proxy mappings tab under MDS Connection service, we have left the default URL configured, entered a username and password in the form of <DOMAIN>\<Username> and entered a proxy string of http://<PROXY FQDN>:<PORT> with a proxy type of PROXY.
Various derivations of the settings have not made a difference, and we cannot seem to generate an error if we enter gibberish in the proxy string field. It just seems to be ignoring the setting.

I am having the exact same problem..browsing the web from the BES is fine, I have configured the BES (VERSION 5) to use http://proxyort in the MDS configuration - but when I try to browse the web my blackberry gives me an Error 400 - bad gateway error, has anyone seen this behaviour before and how have you resolved? Also, I've searched for how to configure exceptions so users can browse the internal websites but the documentation is poor, how can this be done?
Thanks in advance

I am getting the exact same problem, has anyone solved this? I've noticed if I set an exception at the proxy it does work but obviosuly slower because of authentication and filers. I would like this to work at the BES.
