Hello BES Forums
I'm moving from BES 4.x (Whatever the latest release was) to BES 5.
On top of this, we also have built a new virtual server to hold the BES. Is it best that I upgrade to BES 5 from the current position on the same server THEN migrate? Can I get some run downs of what steps to take?
So far it looks like this
Upgrade lance to BES5 on current server Knife Edge Cutover
-- moving the BES to the new server
-Build new server with a different hostname
-Install MSSQL 2005 Express to srvbes01 -Download/Install MS SQL SMSE to srvbes01
Build shell DB according to BB KB12247 Task 1
-Shutdown all BES services on srvbes01 and lance
-On lance, disable all services and set them to manual, simply to preven thtem from starting
-Backup the DB on lance according to BB KB12247 Procedure 2 Task 1
-- backing up the BES DB -Restore according to BB KB12247 Procedure 2 Task 2 on srvbes01
-Perform the install of BES5 and point it to the correct instance Start services?

What mail platform and version are you using?
How many users do you have?
Is high-availablity a requirement for you?
Do you use BES just for email / PIM? Do you deploy / build applications?
