8100 - Extend Number of rings

My 8100 only rings twice before going to the message service.  HOw do I extend the number of rings to (say) 8 rings?

Also I have repeatedly set the "ring tone" to LOUD.   It takes the instruction and then after a period of time the ring tone reverts to "vibrate".  Being in technology all my life, if I were to receive this query my initial thought would be that it would be a user error --  but it is not.

Any suggestions on both issues?

That is controlled by your mobile service provider...ring them up and ask them about that. Some carriers provide a particular dialing string to allow the end user to change it themselves...I've no idea if yours does or not (again, a question for them).

Hmmm...that is odd. Do you have any of the automated turn off, bedside, or any other functions activated? Maybe they are malfunctioning or overriding your selection. Otherwise, is there any sort of consistency to it? Time delay before it changes? Same time of day that it changes? Anything consistent at all?

Otherwise, I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:

  • KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode

It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, see what happens...

If the behavior ceases, then think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.

But if the behavior continues in Safe Mode, you may have to consider more drastic diagnostic attempts -- e.g., WIPE, OS Reload, BBSAK Wipe/Reload, "Bare Bones" OS reload diagnostic process, etc. If you desire to attempt any of that, then please first read, via the link in my auto-sig on this post, the recommended backup procedures...you'll need to be sure you have a solid backup of everything to your PC before you proceed with any of this.

Good luck and let us know!

Re: 8100 - Extend Number of rings

Hi Sdgardner

Thank you -- I have changed the "ring" time successfully.

I will monitor the changing tones and will follow your processes.

Thank you again
