8100 - reboot loop with battery installed

My 18 mo. old 8100 suddenly went into reboot loop, with 2 red blinks and then a screen flash, and then just stayed dead on battery.  If I plug it into the wall charger, it goes into reboot loop.

I found and tried the "reloading nuked blackberry" but that ends with an error when trying to reconnect to JVM if I leave the battery out (as it says it will) but when I reinstall the battery after connection but before load software, the phone goes back into the reboot loop.

Does this sound like a bad battery?  The battery life has been normal, and was nearly full today when this started.

Thanks.

Greg

Re: 8100 - reboot loop with battery installed

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!

The JLcmdr instructions are indeed correct...but it sometimes takes many many tries (I've heard as many as 20) for it to work correctly. Keep trying...that's my advice!

Re: 8100 - reboot loop with battery installed

You're saying to continue to connect with battery out, catch the phone with connection to stop the reboot, insert battery until it stops forcing a reboot?  I've tried it 4 or 5 times, but will give it another 15-20 attempts, if I'm understanding you correctly.

Re: 8100 - reboot loop with battery installed

so, multiple attempts to reload, and every time I insert the battery it goes into reboot loop, and then loader fails with  "Unable to reconnect to the device during a multi-stage load operation" ...

Hmmm...it's been a while since I've had to run the procedure, so I can't recall...but here are all of the links I keep for them...it is scary, I definitely remember that! I thought sure that I'd never recover mine...then suddenly it worked.

Re: 8100 - reboot loop with battery installed

Thanks - saw those already and followed along nicely - until "reinsert battery" whereas I get set back to "reboot loop" (but mine really isn't doing a full reboot - the screen flashes and then goes dark again - no spinning hourglass)

Re: 8100 - reboot loop with battery installed

Hello gkainz,

I've read the posts here a few times and I just want to make sure I understand what is happening.  Basically your device started restarting itself and to fix it we are trying to reload the software on the device but when you put the battery back in during the load the device simply goes back to the loop of restarting. Am I on the right track?

If I am correct about this your next step would be to try the load with a new battery - just make sure that it is an 8100 battery.  You could try one from a friend or maybe stop by a BlackBerry device vendor to see if maybe they have a battery you can test with.  If this works then you can be nearly positive that you have a battery issue.  If you see the same behavior you will be looking at a device hardware issue probably.

hope this helps Smiley Happy

Re: 8100 - reboot loop with battery installed

You understand correctly.  I'm trying to find a known good battery to test in my phone, or a known good phone to test my battery.  So far, no luck, but still looking.

Thanks!

Re: 8100 - reboot loop with battery installed

btw, I did work thru a support ticket with RIM - talked with a tech this morning who concurred that it was a hardware failure, and more likely the phone over the battery.

gkainz,

I hope that it is just a battery issue and you can get it working again!
