8520 curve and Desktop Manager

Apologies if this is mentioned elsewhere, but I have an 8520 which is working just fine but I cant get the desktop manager to recognise it and therefore cant synchronise or download  anything off my laptop to the phone. I am using Windows 7 and have updated the software to 5.01 this morning but still no recognition.

Can any kind soul  point me in the right direction in easy to understand steps so that I can maximise my enjoyment of this wonderful device?
