9700 Egg Timer Problem.

Device Info  Blackberry 9700 On 3 UK  v5.0.0862   Platform 5.1.0.175)

Apps and free space Before 113994402b  After 113903810b (I pulled the batt out without turning off for 1min )

Issue:

I keep getting an egg timer on my screen whenever I do anything. It comes up for looking at BBM and when surfing the internet.  Sometimes happens about 10 times in the space of a couple mins and its not just internet,  music is the same too.  basically anytime when im using the phone the egg timer comes up and its really annoying when texting.

I have rebooted and tried a different sim to no avail.

I have iPlayer (bbc) and Amazon MP3, Google maps installed all the latest version.

Not sure why this is happening,  if anyone has any idea why or how to fix please let me know.

thanks!

Sam

Re: 9700 Egg Timer Problem.

Sam, make certain you do NOT have Memory Cleaner enabled at Options > Security > Memory Cleaner.

To prevent freezing or lagging/slow response on any BlackBerry, the most important practice you can adopt is to be sure to CLOSE applications when you are finished using them.

If you just hit the red "end call" key to go back to the home screen the application actually stays open and running in the background. If you do this repeatedly you will have lots of apps open and consequently your memory will get used up. Lack of memory is the biggest reason your BlackBerry slows to a crawl or locks up. If you get into the habit of actually using the menu key to close the applications this will at least slow down this memory-clogging process. You still may have to do a battery pull or use the "Quickpull" app once in a while when things get slow.

To check what applications are running on your device in the background, press the Menu key then choose Switch Applications. You will see the icons of each application there.

So now, check your applications running in the background. There are commonly four or five applications that will always be running (Messages, Call Logs/Phone, BlackBerry Messenger, Homescreen, and the Browser; there are other third party applications such as BeeJive, and BlackBerry Alerts which will also run in the background which you cannot close if you want them to operate). Make certain that the browser is NOT on an active webpage (open the browser and choose Menu > Close). Close any other applications that do not need to be running (the camera or a game you were playing or Google Maps).

Re: 9700 Egg Timer Problem.

I'm having the same eggtimer problem since loading the new software.

I've tried checking for open applications and only the normal 5 come up.

Also, recharge is taking 5+ hours and the battery collapsed overnight even though the phone was switched off!

All was perfectly AOK right up until I loaded the new software.

Come on BB - let's have some input from you guys here!

Hey Steve, when you registered here, you should have noticed in the EULA or email that this is a user-to-user community support forum. RIM personnel rarely post here.

When did you upgrade the OS6 software?

What is your Operating System loaded to your device? Look at Options > > Device > About, third line down beginning with a "v.6.0.x.xxx", What is yours?

Re: 9700 Egg Timer Problem.

The latest offcial OS5 for the 9700 is 5.0.0.1014

Device operating system releases are "released" by specific carriers once they have certified and trained their support techs, but still, you are able to load to any carrier's same model by following the instructions below.

See the link below, for the download and simple installation instructions.

http://smartphone.nttdocomo.co.jp/materials/bold9700/9700jEastAsia_PBr5.0.0_rel1655_PL5.1.0.177_A5.0...

Do a backup of your device first, using Desktop Manager > Backup. Close Desktop Manager upon completion.

1. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.
