My Device: Blackberry 9700 & 8530
My Carrier: 9700 Used to be ATT (but no longer hooked up) & Verrizon 8530

9700 International Use & Sim Card

My current phone is a 8530 Curve that is supported by Verizon.  I am traveling to Greece next month and I know that it does not have international capabilities

I have a 9700 from my old job that was hooked up to ATT but no longer has a service provider attached to it.  I noticed that it does have a SIM Card and I have heard of getting a sim card overseas for phones (but have never done it).

Will I be able to use my old phone in Greece by just getting a sim card?

Will I be able to get internet use, text, gmail, Google, etc without a carrier but with a SIM card?

I have the option to rent a phone from Verizon that can be used internationally at extra charge but the phone calls are $2/min and text 50 cents each.  I'll go broke with that!!  I will get internet use though unlimited.

Anyone have experience with a 9700 situation that I'm looking for?  I love my 9700...wish it worked with Verizon...  Smiley Sad  my new carrier.

Thanks in advance
