Re: 9700 OS upgrade

What is your Operating System loaded to your device? Look at Options > > Device > About, third line down beginning with a "v.5.0.x.xxx", What is yours?

On the 9700, you can upgrade to a higher OS 5 release or to OS6, which do you want?

Re: 9700 OS upgrade

The latest OS 5 release is 5.0.0.1014  >>  http://smartphone.nttdocomo.co.jp/materials/bold9700/9700jEastAsia_PBr5.0.0_rel1655_PL5.1.0.177_A5.0...\

The latest OS6 release is 6.0.0.615 >> https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/Downloads/contactFormPreload.do?code=6C3CF77D52820CD0FE646D38BC21...

Device operating system releases are "released" by specific carriers once they have certified and trained their support techs, but still, you are able to load to any carrier's same model by following the instructions below.

See the link above for the download, and follow these simple installation instructions.

Do a backup of your device first, using Desktop Manager > Backup. Close Desktop Manager upon completion.

1. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

Note: Some users might worry they will void their device warranty by loading an OS from another carrier. There is really nothing to worry about. Please read more information on that here: http://www.port3101.org/power-users/296-blackberry-os-upgrade-including-betas-myths-dispelled.html

Re: 9700 OS upgrade

Yes that's possible. Make sure you won't be charged extra by your carrier for tethering.
I'm mobile today and can't post the link with instructions to use the BlackBerry as a modem but if you use the search nox above to search the knowledge base articles here for "tether modem" you'll find the instructions.
