My blackberry OS is "6.0 Bundle 863 (v18.104.22.1685, Platform 22.214.171.124)". I am with Fido as my mobile carrier. I've had my 9780 for about 3 weeks now or so, and just over night, for some reason, it's extremely slow. When typing messages on SMS or BBM, I constantly get the "loading" icon. I'll have typed a portion of a sentence and the "loading" icon will pop up and then pause, and my sentence will appear in the text box. I also get the loading icon while "typing" a contacts name in my address book or going through contacts in my address book or BBM contacts. After typing my password to unlock my phone my phone kind of freezes then goes back to the home screen after a few seconds. I've restored my phone to a date that these problems haven't occurred, and yet I'm still having these problems. I've updated my phone, tried everything, but I can't seem to find a solution, I've tried updating it, I've tried battery pulls, after pulling the battery, the loading screen loads to full very quickly as usual, however, as soon as it reaches a full bar, it stops there for about 2-3 mins, then at the "security verification" point, it takes about 1-2 mins for that program to run, everything is generally slower and has become a nuisance, very irritating for a new phone. Also, while scrolling on the track pad anywhere on the phone aside from the phone screen there is a lag, between contacts, SMS messages, BBM contacts, there are lags, but in the home screen there is very little lag unless you click on an icon, for example "Media, Applications". This new problem of mine is a drain on my battery as well. Also, now that this lag has come upon my phone, when typing messages, if I tap a letter, sometimes the letter will pop up 2 or 3 times as if I hit I 2 or three times, this would happen before, but now it happens at a more constant rate. Any help anyone?

I've found a solution to my problem, one of my applications was taking too much CPU space while running. "Mr. Number Call Block" application was using about 96% on my CPU, by removing it, my speed is up to normal. To check how much power your apps are using on your phone go to Options--> Device--> Application Management (then scroll to your right).

Any resolution on the double letters issue. My Bold 9780 does the same thing. It types two vowels. In stead of reading "Thank You" my bold will type "Thaank Yoou".

I have 4 bold 9780s in front of me right now. Two of them in which the keypad is extremely "clicky", the send and end buttons are squeaky, and at the bottom of the bezel is loose. They both double/triple press. The other two DO NOT double/triple press and the keypad is DEFINATELY softer and quieter (no clicking and bezel seems tightly fitted). More solid. 2 out of 4 is 50%. I wonder how many phones out there are doing this? Alot? Doubt rim will do anything about it. They're acting as if they've never heard of the problem or that it's rare. Wonder how many loyal berry customers they're gonna lose...sad.

I've bought my 9780 back in January 2011, starting day one mine was already double tapping the characters every once in a while. Called Rogers and got a brand new replacement, the issue existed on the replacement, the second time around they sent a refurbished one, same thing, so they have sent another brand new one, no help, it is still doing the same thing. I have been on the phone with Rogers tech support many times for hours and all they can offer is another 9780, obviously it would come with the same glitch. I've talked to the Retention dept this morning and they suggested i trade up my phone for a different model, but it would cost me $575 !!!
I ended up ordering another replacement of 9780. So far the issue has not been resolved for me, if anyone gets a solution please post it here.

I have been having this same problem for sometime and I know it sucks.
Just letting you know that I was able to solve this issue successfully just recently. It is not about the which version of OS you need to install. Apparently, it is hardware defect. The problem is located on the keypad membrane (the part that lies beetween physical keypad that you can press and the PCB). You could buy this part from eBay, such as http://cgi.ebay.com/Blackberry-bold-9700-keyboard-
This membrane is basically just a sticker that can be easily peeled off and replaced with a new one. Please bear in mind that you will need to open the phone (void the warranty) and to do this and you could find guidance online, such as http://goonthemove.com/blackberry/blackberry-bold-
I also wonder why RIM has not responded to this so far where many has been affected. Bad support indeed.
