My 9780 wifi works about 30% of the time. I get messages that there is a communication error or server is busy or cannot connect to server or failure to connect to server or unable to find the requested server. At other times it works just fine, then I click a link and it can't find the server. It is very frustrating. I am browsing very typical pages like Google, nytimes, blackberry mobile etc..
Here are something's I have tried so far to correct the problem:
- pulled battery and reset
- cleared cache etc
- checked my router (2wire) for issues
- my wifi symbol is completely white, not grey it shows a strong connection, my bb tells me the signal strength is -47dbm
- tried opera and bolt browsers..get same dropped wifi messages, cannot connect etc..
My wifi connects to laptop with no problem and never drops signal, my computer has strong internet connection with no drops in connection...why does my blackberry only work intermittently on wifi?
Any tips, advice greatly appreciated.

Just out of curiousity... do you connect to more than one wifi connection? if so, does it happen in both locations or just the one?

I do connect a two different wifi spots, both use 2wire routers, both have same problems of dropped or no server connections about 70% of the time. the frustrating part is that wifi does work sometimes very well then inexplicably (to me anyways) it just refuses to work

Same issue here. Same router except that I get one bar less although I am literally less than a meter from the router. I tried it at school's wifi and I still have issues there. I am giving up pretty soon.
I have read other complains online (crackberry's website). It seems that the issue is growing.

Hi dmwpg, I am using a different BB smartphone from yours. I am using a BB Torch 9800 but your error messages seem to be similar to mine. Pls try out a solution that I found from one of the forums.
1. The problem seem to lie with the Wi-Fi router security settings. Check yours to see whether you have selected WEP(legacy) or WPA2(latest).
2. I read in one of these forums that BB has not updated their smartphones to work with WPA2 and it seem that my trusted WEP is also a problem now. WPA is a security protocol that sits in between WEP and the latest WPA2. I switched to "WPA only" security settings and corrected my Wi-Fi network profile on my BB Torch.
Now I can browse smoothly and super-fast on my home Wi-Fi network.
