9790 in South Africa

Can anyone tell me when the software update (7.1) will be available for my 9790 in South Africa? I see the software is avaliable in other countries and that the official update is avliable for other other phones on the south african site.

Re: 9790 in South Africa

Hi Jason-smit

Welcome to the Community

If you really want to updrade your device software to 7.1 you can do that ,you are not limited to your own carrier. You can download 7.1 OS from any Carrier if you do so the only thing you have to do is delete one or two Vendor .xml files.

If you have any problem let us know.

Hi Jason-smit

All those OS packages are developed by RIM not from the Carrier. RIM develop them then pass them to their Carriers , Regarding the Warranty I don't think so, I am also using different Carrier Package.

It will not void your warranty.  If you use a different OS than the one your carrier released you may have trouble getting support while on that version.  You can always reinstall the carrier's official version and then get support if you had to.

All the OS's are developed by RIM for specific devices and are not developed specifically for carriers.  The carriers then test them and release the versions they have tested internally.  Often other OS releases work better than a carrier's official release.  I don't use Tmobile's official release on my 9810 because the newer one I have works much better.
