9850 Will not reboot , stuck at 70-80%

Hey all, newbie here so go easy Smiley Happy  I have a 9850 from Sprint. While Twitter was open I froze and had to pull the battery. Now ever since it only boots to like 70-80% and stops. I have pulled tha battery numerous times with no luck. Tonight Im going to try to see if it will connect to desktop manager. If the phone isnt booting is it possible desktop will still detect it?  I have not backed up for awhile so I am hoping that I can recover and back up before going any further. I dont want to loose pics and such. When starting the led red light comes on and the blackberry screen with bar appears. The start up starts but then just stops.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Im technically challenged so any assistance would be great

Thanks

Randy

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:

  • KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode

It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, see what happens.

If the behavior ceases, then think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.

But if the behavior continues in Safe Mode, then you may need to consider more drastic actions -- WIPE, OS Reload, BBSAK Wipe/Reload, and the "Bare Bones" OS Reload Process. To prepare, you should be sure that you have a full backup to your PC...please review the Backup link in my auto-sig on this post for instructions.

You may also need the use of these tricks:

You have left yourself at great risk...an old saying:

  • There are two kinds of computing device users in the world -- those who have lost data, and those who will

Backups, quite simply, are neither a reactive nor an optional activity.

Good luck and let us know!

So far I have tried the safe start and it gets to the same spot on the bar and stops. SHould I just continue holding and wait?

Re: 9850 Will not reboot , stuck at 70-80%

I can't tell you what to do. I know that when I first tried with a touch screen device, it took me 10 times to get it right, varying from the KB instructions little bits here and there. Since I don't have your device, I can't tell you exactly what you need to do.

But I can tell you that if you fail to get into Safe Mode, it is highly likely that you will lose everything that is presently on your device (assuming it's not already gone, of course)...hence the need for regular backups as I mentioned before.

Good luck!

Well I tried the safe mode and no luck. I tried to update it using BB desktop multiple times and it works to a point on the reboot and stops..again at the 75-80%. Sprint is going to send me out a replacement unit.

I do appreciate the help. Thank you
