9900 Synchronization with Desktop

Replaced a BB Storm with a BB Bold 9900 with 7.1 OS.  Had problems with setting up email - OS 7 would not allow me to set up the emails on the phone itself - had to be performed by provider!?!?!?  It now works.

 

My question is  - when I try to synchronize, the process just hangs after initiation - "progressing'.  After several hours there is no progress.  I checked the internet and my software is up to date.  Any other suggestions...
