AT THE END OF MY TETHER!!

I have had a Blackberry Torch 9860 since October 2011.  I dropped my phone from a great height (30ft) and it broke.  I phoned my network provider (Orange) who arranged to send another phone to me and I had to pay a £25 excess fee (despite having Orange Care Insurance).  Since then my phone was working fine apart from being a little sensitive on the keyboard.  I started having problems again at the beginning of September 2012 whereby I could not connect to the Internet (i.e. Facebook app, Twitter app or the actual internet itself through the Browser).  I visited one of the Orange stores and was told to update (7.1 Bundle 2061) through a computer.  I did this at the beginning of October 2012 and my phone started rebooting itself.  I spoke to Orange again who said that it was my memory card as it was probably corrupted.  So they sent me another phone.  Within one day of getting my new phone back to normal (i.e. new update, getting apps and all data back) it started rebooting itself again.  This would happen up to 10x a day.  I went back to the Orange store I purchased it from only to be put through to the Faults Team and to be told again that it was my memory card.  I was told that I would have to reformat my phone and the memory card.  As the memory card is 6 years old and has a lot of important data stored on it I was reluctant to reformat the memory card until I had transferred the data to a computer.  The memory card has never been back in the phone and once again the phoned started rebooting itself.  I once again phoned Orange and told them the memory card was not in the phone so how could it be this causing the problem.  I was once again fobbed off with "we'll send you another phone".  I received my new phone on Monday this week.  Reinstalled everything and low and behold the same thing has happened again.  No memory card has gone near this phone.  Surely it can't be a coincidence that 3 phones after updating them with the new updated bundle can be doing exactly the same thing.

I have now had 5 phones in 13 months 3 of which have been replaced in the last two weeks!!

I am at the end of my tether as Orange seem to be quite happy to keep sending me phones which they claim are "faulty".

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Re: AT THE END OF MY TETHER!!

Faulty memory card?  Wow, I haven't heard that one before.  Way to go, Orange!  Let's just tell the customers something so they'll go away and leave us alone.

Constant rebooting has been known to happen.  I have a 9860 and have had no problems with it so I guess I'm just lucky.

Whenever weirdness creeps in to your phone, a battery pull is usually recommended however that won't do the trick in this instance.  I think you should go right to an OS reload.  You don't even have to put a new OS in, just reloading your current OS will usually resolve the issue.

What you'll want to do is connect your phone to your PC and open BlackBerry Desktop Software.  Click Device at the top of the software then Restore.  If your phone won't connect to BDS due to constant rebooting, have a look at this article:

Keep us up to date on your progress.  Smiley Happy

Re: AT THE END OF MY TETHER!!

could be an app running in the back ground causing the reboot

what apps are on it? maybe reinstalling them one day at a time could lead you to which one is doing it.

The only apps i have on my phone are BBM, Blackberry Protect, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and Screen Muncher all of which were on my phone a long time before the problems started.

Re: AT THE END OF MY TETHER!!

I think it is some app that is causing this problem.
