About to loose all my data, what does it mean unlocking pasword?

I have had a BB Curve 9300 for almost a year. I have never sincronised it with my computer. Today, I have decided to do so and the software asks me for a password to unclock my bb device. In the window it pops up there's the model of my BB with a PIN code in brackets. I have tried with the PIN, my phone PIN with the password to unlock the keyboard BUT I have run out of oportunities. I had ten trials, I have 1 left. It says that if I don't put the correct "blackberry" all data in the device will be deleted. What code is it asking for?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

The password prompted for by the Desktop Software and the password you assigned to lock your BB are indeed the same password. But, what I suspect is that you've got a mixture of different characters in your device password, and perhaps have not noticed how you must enter those on the BB keyboard. For instance, if your password is

  • ab123

and you enter

  • a > b > ALT > 1 > 2 > 3

the actual result will be

  • ab1er

You must enter

  • a > b > ALT > 1 > ALT > 2 > ALT > 3

in order to wind up with ab123. So, in this example, while on the BB keyboard you think you are typing ab123, you are actually typing ab1er.

With one chance left, you need to reset the password attempt counter...and it's the same counter regardless of entry method (BB or PC keyboard)...so, on your BB, type your password, you should get just a moment where each character is shown in the clear before it changes to an * (unless it's already in the clear given the 9 failed attempts). Watch closely and you may see a surprising result -- it will be those exact characters that you must type on your PC keyboard as that's actually your password.
