So, is this a new action you have just conducted? Or is this a change to the information you provided earlier? Please clarify...

Yes, I did that before creating the new ID; wiped out the device, signed in with the current ID, restored all files and settings but the BBM contacts.

In light of what you said about BBM7 associating contacts list with ID, that obviously did not work for me.

Yup...it sounds like it didn't work for you. Is there any chance you did any backups (to PC) prior to migrating up to BBM7? If so, then there is a chance that your BBM contacts are backed up there, and could be restored via the Dekstop Software (selective restore process).

I did, and they were not restored.   I restored almost all of them manually (reconnecting with my contacts.

 

PS  I drove by the RIM BlackBerry campus today; all but one small building have the old RIM logo on them.

Oh...so you are already beyond the point of any restore being of any use to you...since any restore would replace what you have now, not merge with it.
