Yesterday clicked the automatic upgrade to OS7.
The process began as usual--first the back up then the installation.
At the reboot phase things went amiss. I had to walk away from the computer for 45mins and the PC went into screen saver mode. Logged back into the PC.
BB desktop software asked to 'retry' connecting to device. Did this three times. This took several hours but still no response. The reboot process never happened
Although the device has power, when I tried reconnecting this morning, BB Desktop still 'does not recognize the device'.
The phone is inoperable. Occasionally the tracker pad lights up when connected to BB desktop.

You won't be going anywhere very quickly unless you can get your phone connected to BlackBerry Desktop Software (yeah, I know...."DUH!").
BlackBerry has an article detailing what to do when BDS doesn't want to talk to your phone. Have a look:
I hope that helps you.

Thank you for your message.
I got up to step 4
then the message came up:
press the power button for 10seconds to reset the device
the operation could not contiunue because the battery was still out
however back to the initial inquiry, I have some additional information. I discovered that while the upgrade to OS7 was installing, my sleuthing son took my Bell SIM card out (kids, you gotta love 'em) and replaced it with a SIM card from a foreign country (which hasn't been used since 2011)
is this phone forever meesed up?
