Another way to hard reset apart from removing battery?

I sometimes have problems with my application memory leaking, where it starts the day around 29Mb, and slowly, over the remainder of the day, creeps down to around 5Mb. I'm still trying to identify what app is causing this. In the meantime, I get around it by doing a hard reset, by removing the battery for approximatly 30 seconds.

QUESTION: is there some other way (simultaneously holding down many keys, etc.) to do this hard reset than by removing the battery?

Thanks!

What device do you have?

I do not think you can on any of the newer devices.

Re: Another way to hard reset apart from removing battery?

Oops. My apologies. I assumed that it was obvious from the forum. I have a Blackberry Bold (i.e.: 9000).

And I would really like to be able to do a hard reset WITHOUT physically opening it.

Thanks again!

Re: Another way to hard reset apart from removing battery?

In 8700g pressing Alt-Cap-Del makes device a soft reset which is usually done by pulling out battery. But in other devices this option is missing.

On 9000

Left ALT + Right SHIFT + DEL (hold them down until the screen goes blank).

COOL! It works...I though RIM left this option...It works in curve as well. Thanks for the TIP.

Re: Another way to hard reset apart from removing battery?

Mucho thanks, it works very nicely, saving me having to remove the back of the Blackberry. Of course, I come from a mostly-Windows environment, where we are used to rebooting our machines once a day...  :smileywink:

Re: Another way to hard reset apart from removing battery?

Unfortunately the ALT-CAP-DELETE keys reset is a soft reset and not a hard reset.

The only Hard reset is by removing the Battery when the device is turned on.

You should perform a hard reset if you have any problem as your first troubleshooting step.

Soft reset is pretty useless.

Re: Another way to hard reset apart from removing battery?

By performing a soft reset, I see an application memory free space gain to >40 MB from around 25 MB I end up at after a day or two of normal use running .168.  I use my Bold as a news and web browser, an mp3 player, an e-mail/messaging system and oh yea as a phone too (Bluetooth 95% of the time).

Thanks, my device usually hangs for no good reason. Especialy when receiving MMS. So this really helps!
