Application icon missing - KB19976

Application icon missing and displays in an 'Archived' status in BlackBerry App World after upgrading to BlackBerry Device Software version 5.0



When upgrading to BlackBerry Device Software version 5.0, if you have installed an application that is not compatible with BlackBerry Device Software 5.0 prior to the upgrade to BlackBerry Device Software version 5.0, the icon for that application will no longer be present on the BlackBerry smartphone.



This issue is caused when incompatible applications previously downloaded from BlackBerry App World are removed by BlackBerry Device Software 5.0 and are moved to an 'Archived' state. This behavior is outlined in KB19913.




There are two resolutions for this issue please see below:


Resolution 1

Upgrade to BlackBerry App World version by downloading the latest version from http://www.blackberry.com/appworld


Resolution 2

To resolve this issue on BlackBerry App World versions or earlier, complete the following steps:

  1. Perform a hard reset on the BlackBerry smartphone.  For instructions on performing a hard reset, see KB02141.
  2. Within BlackBerry App World navigate to My World.
  3. Select the missing application that has a status of Archived.
  4. Click the Full Menu key and chose Delete.
  5. Note that the status under the application now shows Uninstalled.
  6. Click the application entry and click Reinstall.



Additional Information

The applications affected by this behavior will be ones installed from BlackBerry App world and that exist in the list of incompatible applications oulined in KB19913.
