Asking for password which I have never set,

I have had this phone since December but never used itand now it is asking for a password which I never set in the first place! If I make 10 attempts there is nothing on it to erase. Will I then be able to use the phone?

Yes, once you enter the 10th wrong attempt the device will wipe all the data and you will be able to use the device.
