Hello. I downloaded BB Protect to my Curve 8520 several days ago. Several times a day, I get a notification telling me that it's:
"unable to back up due to radio coverage settings. Blackberry Protect is not able to back up your device data because either (1) the device is roaming, and you specified not to back up while roaming; or (2) the device is not in wi-fi coverage, and you specified only to back up over Wi-Fi. Your last backup was Apr 2, 2011 1 pm."
When I go to the app, it has "only back up over wi-fi" checked, and "allow back up when roaming" unchecked. It says the next backup is May 2, 2011. I go to my home screen, and the wi-fi indicator is there, brightly lit. The device has been in wi-fi coverage most of the time for the last several days.
Is this a bug? It shouldn't be giving me this message, right? I'm not even sure why it's trying to back up now if my "next backup is May 2."

Thanks for replying to my post.
My provider is ATT, I live in a major US city, and I haven't been traveling out of town or anything. I hope that answers the "roaming" question. If not, let me know.

you answer perfectly my question. Unfortunately, I do not know what is happening.
I suggest you contact your carrier helpdesk. You pay them to support all applications developped by RIM, like BB Maps and BB Protect.
Should they not be able to solve your issue, they are supposed to contact RIM level 2 support, at no charge for you, to seek help.

I have the same problem and it has not so much to do with the roaming.
I choose to do a monthly backup and did the first one a week ago.
I also get these messages, about once a day, even though my next back up is due in 3 weeks...
So it doesn't make sense to give me these messages, he should not be trying to back up anyway.
I wonder if it is related to a carrier, because I am in South Africa.
My phone is the Curve9300.
I just updated my phone to OS6, bundle 1879 about an hour ago.
So I'll see if the problem with BB Protect persists.
Hope this helps!
