BB Storm 9530 Platform Updates?

Ok So I've given up on trying to use BBDM on my laptop and have gone back  to my desk top. My question is this..my phone says it is using v4.7.0.76 (platform 4.0.0.96)  I see references to what looks to me like an updated OS 5. something? When I do a wireless update on the phone it says none available. BBDM when hooked to the device tells me same as well.. No Updates Available. Can anyone tell me if  there is an update for my Storm and where I can find it?

Re: BB Storm 9530 Platform Updates?

The latest 9530 model OS release is 5.0.0.419

The link below offers the download and the very simple instructions. Follow them exactly as written, and first do a backup of your device using Desktop Manager > Backup.

http://www.blackberryforums.com/general-9500-series-discussion-storm/214688-latest-os-9530-5-0-0-674...

I have no idea why your device/Desktop Manager won't see the OTASL updates.

You didn't state who your carrier is, and the over the air OS upgrades are determined by your carrier.,

But you can upgrade per the instructions in my link.

Re: BB Storm 9530 Platform Updates?

Carrier is Telus in AB Canada. Thanks for the site for update. Is this one of those beta (I think thats what its called) OS and do you think there would be any issues if Telus doesn't support it?\

Re: BB Storm 9530 Platform Updates?

The link I gave you as you will read in the link is an officially released OS from another carrier... however, you can load the OS to any carrier's 9530 device.

As far as I know, Telus does not support it yet. You can still install it, but Telus won't answer questions about it and IF you take the device in to a local store for help, you might need to downgrade the OS to something they support.

Otherwise... go for it.

Is your device still under warranty (less than a year old)?

Re: BB Storm 9530 Platform Updates?

I bought 2 devices. One for my wife. I bought the 3 year extended warranty. I normally don't buy Xtra warranty on anything, but the salesman insisted it would cover batteries which are like 90 bucks a piece and that I would need at least one or two before my contract was up (3years). I made him add it to the sales contract where it says batteries not covered.. input it into my file on the computer and made his manager sign it.. So I guess to answer your question.. it's still under warranty

[ Edited ]

1. They are robbing people blind if they sell batteries for $90, even in Canadian dollars. But ok.

2. NEVER expect to use a cellular phone, even a smartphone, for three years! That's my advice, for what it is worth, I know know.

3. Yep, you're under warranty. Smiley Sad

Telus is still stuck with a very very old OS version 4.7.0.122

So, if you are on 4.7.0.76, upgrade to the latest .122, it IS better than .76.

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=02A32AD2669E6FE298E607FE7CC0E1A0

First do a backup of the Storm as it is, using Desktop Manager > Backup.

1. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

I did exactly that on my 9530. I did not regret and in fact blamed myself for waiting so long before doing it.
