Blackberry Curve 8530. File Free: 12.6, I am never really sure when my BB get's updates since I believe it does it automatically. But as of Thursday September 23rd or Friday September 24th I have not been receiving SMS text messages from anyone except for myself. I can text myself from the BB and receive them. But when anyone else does I do not receive them. I do not even get alerts that I am getting anything. My friends in the US are the only ones who cannot receive my text messages at all, and as i said nor do i get SMS from them either. I have done soft resets, hard resets (pull batt. While on) and I have done a delete and restore from my computer. I am not sure what is going on even after doing all these things I am still unable to receive texts. Anyone else having the same problem???
*update* I have done a security wipe to restore it to factory settings and still not receiving text messages. I am now fully out of options.

I'm having the same problem. My husband is on the same plan as me, but he has an android phone. I can send and receive text messages from him and myself, however, I can not send or receive text messages from anyone else. I've taken the battery out, updated my phone profile through the blackberry network and don't several other trouble shooting methods.
When I send a text it says that it goes through. When I got my phone I started texting my friends and family and received no response, thinking that everyone was just busy. When I talked to them later they said they never received anything and like wise, they sent me texts that I had not received as well.
I'm on Virgin Mobile and have called them 4 times now. The first person said that it should be working in 2-4 hours and that he would call me back. 4 hours later, It was not only still not working, but he had never called me back. The next person I called had be do all the trouble shooting that I had already done and then he told me it should be working in an hour. Three hours later it was still not working so I called again, this time I spoke to a lady that had me do all the trouble shooting again and said that she fixed it.. over the phone I texted google to be sure, and sure enough .. STILL DID NOT WORK. She said "oh.. well.. you need to talk to one of our blackberry specialists". After forwarding me to someone, he had me trouble shoot again.. exactly what I had done previously and what all the other techs made me do. He said it should be working in 30-72 hours and that it was a problem with the blackberry network. I'm not sure I should wait 72 hours for it to work... especially when in the past they haven't called me back.
1.) I can still make phone calls
2.) I can text my husband and can receive texts from him
3.) I can access the internet and download and upload files
There is no indication on my phone that the texts are not going through, I get that little check mark by my text messages and everything looks normal.
Is this a simple fix? Is everyone experiencing this problem?

I have the EXACT problem. I activated my bb a couple days ago porting in my number from Metro PCS. It only took about an hour for my number to be transferred and my service to be activated. I was immediately able to make phone calls and access the web. I sent out a few texts and got no reply. I thought the same thing...they must be busy. Later talked to those people and they hadn't received anything from me as well as I hadn't received any of their texts. I've also talked to quite a few techs at VM and gone throught the troubleshooting about 3 times with them and tried a few things on my own that I found on forums. (Taking out the battery while the phone is on...ALT+SHIFT+DELETE...50 million provisionings)
I am trying to be patient because I've heard that when you port over a number from another company, it takes a while for all the features to work properly but I seriously doubt this is the case. My last hope was to speak to the blackberry specialists (who's call I'm still waiting on) but after reading these posts I can see they are going to do or say nothing different than what I already heard and went through.
The only reason I switched to VM was because I really wanted the BB without the $60 dollar plan. I can keep up with 300 minutes because all I use my phone for is TEXTING TEXTING TEXTING. And it's the one thing I haven't been able to do. Right now I am talking to a few people thru fb msgs, I receive the notifications of a reply just like I would a text. BUT I AM NOT SETTLING FOR THIS. If we're paying for unlimited texting, we should be able to use it!

WHoa i would write a huge story here. I do not need to i am having the same exact issue. I have talked with 4 different VM reps having me walk threw toubleshooting blah blah. I kept texting thinking oh people must be busy. No they are not ! The rep even had me call a friend and have them text me to make sure i was not get text. My previous 3 phone calls were not proof enough? I got this plan for the Beyond talk too bc all i do is text. No good that is going to do when i can not even text. NO wonder it is so cheap. SO they escalated it as i read that they would online. THey said it should work in 24 to 72 hrs. From what i have read it does not have to do with the device it is the carrier. I think there is something fishy going on or maybe i am just paranoid. I wish someone was able to help. I can not find anything on here. I am sure there are more people who have this problem. They just do not want to take the time to register for this site. I almost did not. I came back to it later in the evening. SOmeone new had posted the same situation just hours before me. I am so agravated right now. I spent almost $300 for the phone and card. Now i can not even text to anyone. I can call but i dont want to waste those 300 minutes ya know. Maybe that is the plan huh. I can call people and use the crappy internet. I can do that at my house! Thanks for letting me vent. I have been dealing with this since 9am. I guess i did make this long. Hopefully they come up with a solution. The store i bought the phone at told warned me before i bought it. They said you can not exchange the phone for cash or a differnet phone. The only way it can go back is for another blackberry ahhhhh! I am not re reading this hope it makes sense.

Well at least I know I'm not the only one! Now if only there was an answer... because virgin mobile doesn't seem to have one. Why would they sell this phone for their beyond plan if it can't text anyone that isn't on the VM carrier... sounds fishy to me too.

well that plan sound AMAZING which is why we all dropped things and ran over there...without text i will need much more minutes. I would def need to go up to the $60 plan which is what i was paying before pretty much. From what i get it is not the device it is the carrier. I was told they must have not have this feature enabled. I saw this vid on youtube. This guy is showing how to seperate sms and email. The screen he goes to looks exactly like ours BUT we do not have the sms and email seperator option. Its the only thing missing. I believe it is because it is not enabled. I dont know i have only been given the information i can go off of. All trouble shooting and info i have seen says it should work. The only reason it would not work is if the carrier does not have it enabled. I am not a tech or anything this is just what i have come up with. Here is the vid if you can make anything of it.
BlackBerry Split Email and SMS Text Messages

That is interesting, I'm wondering if he had the same phone, though. I have a curve 8530 and the SMS and EMAIL option wasn't on my phone. The catch for me is that I can send text messages to my husband... the only thing that's different with him is that he is on the virgin mobile network. I've tried to send texts to Sprint, AT&T and Verizon users and nothing goes through. I find it ironic that they make us pay an extra $10 a month for a plan that may or may not be compatible with other carriers.

MY TEXTS STARTED WORKING LAST NIGHT LIKE AN HOUR AFTER I POSTED ON HERE. I wish i could tell everyone how it got fixed but i honestly have no idea, I didn't do anything. If anybody else's started working as well then it was probably a general VM problem that got fixed. It might have been one of the many hard resets I did or the settings I changed.....or I just had to wait the 24-72 hours for all the features to start working after transferring my number from metro....idk???
But I just wanted to add that I am receiving texts from ppl with carriers other than virgin mobile. In fact, I don't have any contacts with VM. Most of them have Verizon or Metro and I am able to send and receive.
*Hopefully it stays this way and I won't have any more issues!!

Mine started working last night too! I have an idea.. I think it's because blackberry phones don't automatically work when you first activate them. You have to wait for them to change your phone. I've looked at other articles where people have had the same exact problem when first getting their blackberry phone. This is not very efficient, but it's definitely a problem with the VM network. Very cool too see that they started working at the same time though. I'm so glad I get to keep this phone and this plan, I'm just very dissappointed with their service and that they didn't notify us about this problem.

You are right must have been a VM issue. Whoa mine tworks too ...now i feel like a fool! NOw that it is working i am LOVING the phone and VM 8) Hopefully everything else runs smooth. If so i am going to wonder why i did not do this years ago! I really hope i do not regret saying that. Thanks for the info guys!
