BBM 5: Contact restore doesn't work.

I've had some contacts sync problems, so I decided to try the restore feature that was supposedly included in BBM 5.0

Went into my contacts application, typed "rset" and got a clean Default list.

Then...I went to BBM and clicked on "Restore using email" and I got a message telling me that it's OK, my contacts are automatically backed up and that I don't need to use that feature. Fine, so where are my contacts then? Why don't the show up automatically in my BB?

Next I tried to restore using a backup file. Guess what? "Contact List Recovery failed. Please try again later".

I can click on this as many times as I want, I always get the same message and am left with a blank contacts list.

Re: BBM 5: Contact restore doesn't work.

Did you ever do a contacts backup to your email address or to the Media Card?

I would do a simple reboot of the device: With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.

And, try it again.

Re: BBM 5: Contact restore doesn't work.

I did several local backups. None worked.

I just did another test. Backup to media card and then tried to restore shortly after. Same error message.

As for the remote backup functionality, it's a bit useless since it doesn't let me chose a restore point. Once I delete all my contacts on my BB, it will certainly wipe my contacts in the BB messenger server...

Is that what the error message stated?

Do you have encryption set on your Media Card?

Yes. I turned it off and tried to restore the contact list and same error message.

[ Edited ]

I looked at the encrypted files, they are empty.

I did a new backup while encryption was off and the file is still empty.

There is something really wrong with the backup/restore feature of BBM 5 or my phone Smiley Wink

Odd, I've just never seen that error message before.  Smiley Wink

I don't doubt you, just seems a very casual error message coming from RIM.
