Re: BBM not working

Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan enabled on your account with your carrier or mobile provider?

You must, in order to get the BlackBerry Messenger, and much more.

So, call your carrier and inquire about having the BlackBerry Data Plan added to your account.

Good luck.

Re: BBM not working

[ Edited ]

Hi and pls excuse me for butting in but I'm having the same issue with my curve.  I live in France so it was locked to a French provider but I'm in the uk at the mo and wanted to use data services without getting caned on the roaming charges. So I had it unlocked and I bought a new t-mobile payg sim today but although I can access the internet, my email messages aren't coming through and BBM isn't working. I tried going through the set-up option but I'm getting an error message indicating that I can't connect to the server.

I called t-mobile who confirmed that data services are definitely activated but they claim the BB server is down. However I can't find anything on the net to confirm this so are they covering their backsides with this excuse or is there an outage that hasn't been reported yet?

Thanks in advance for your help

Nix

EDIT: sorry, forgot to say that texts (and I assume phonecalls although I haven't tried yet) are working.

Re: BBM not working

No, there's no outage about right now.

Your problem is that you placed a different SIM card in your handheld, and your data plan for BBM and email is connected to your other SIM card. The paygo SIM has no BlackBerry Data Plan, hence, no data.

Your "internet" is likely working off the WiFi connection, as it should. Your BB data requires the data plan.

Re: BBM not working

Hi and thanks for replying

not sure if we're talking about 2 different things here but when I spoke to T-mobile, they confirmed that the payg plan is compatible for use with BB and that I should have access to BBM etc. I SPECIFICALLY asked for a BB compatible payg plan and they have assured me that this is what I have. If the data services are still somehow "locked" to my other sim card, could you please advise how I can fix this? Bearing in mind that T-mobile customer service claim that everything is switched on and should be working, except for this apparently imaginary "outage"?

Cheers

Nix

Re: BBM not working

Yea, it sounds like your device PIN might still be registered on your home network, and needs to be released from it, so that it can be provisioned to this new network.

Re: BBM not working

Hi and thanks again!

Just had a massive row with the guy in the t-mobile shop as he told me the problem was their end and it could take anything up to 24hrs to fix it which makes the **bleep** sim all but useless to me as I'll be going back to France the next day....  I asked if I could just give them back the SIM and get a refund but he refused point blank. And this was the shop manager so I had nowhere to go after that.  Not happy.

Interestingly I called the customer support helpline while I was still in the store (and at my own expense GGRRRR!) and the lady there indicated that t-mobile often has issues with RIM's servers.   I used to have an Orange payg sim card and it worked just fine so this problem is quite possibly unique to T-mobile.

So, word to the wise, if you're in the UK and you have a Blackberry, DON'T USE T-MOBILE!!!
