Battery at the point that it's unusable - Bold 9900

[ Edited ]

Up until about a week ago my BlackBerry Bold 9900 worked perfectly fine with no battery life issues. Now it will charge (rather quickly) to 100%, work fine for 30-45 minutes while still showing full battery before restarting itself abruptly. When the device turns back on it shows 0-5% battery life and will continually restart itself until it no longer has enough charge to boot up again. I should also note that the phone works fine indefinitely while it's plugged in and I'm running the 7.1.0 software.

I'm assuming it would be a problem with the device itself rather than the battery because the change was so abrupt, if anyone is familiar with the problem or have any solution it would be much appreciated Smiley Happy

Things I have tried:

- Pulling the battery

- Soft restart

- Charging the phone for several hours

- Freeing up memory

Re: Battery at the point that it's unusable - Bold 9900

Hello ThirdWheel and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.

Sorry to hear you're having an issue with your device.

To rule out a software issue, backup your data (see KB12487 How to back up the data on a BlackBerry smartphone) then follow the steps in KB11320 How to perform a clean reload of the BlackBerry Device Software for Windows (or if you use Mac, see KB19915 Perform a clean reload of BlackBerry smartphone application software using BlackBerry Desktop Software on a Mac computer)

Before any data is restored, test the battery duration to see if it keeps its charge.

If the same issue occurs, it's recommended to try another battery.

Let us know the result. Thanks!
