I have a Bold 9780 and for some reason it pops up with a message saying "Battery drained. Shutting down handheld." even though my battery was 50% full. It has happened before. when it happens, I remove the battery and reboot the device. it gives me the same error except this time, the battery icon says that it is fully charged.

It's funny how smartphones work. Your battery can be 100% full but if something in your software has gone wonky, it will show only 50% full and might even shut off your phone unexpectedly. It all comes down to a software glitch so we're going to try two solutions to resolve your software issues.
The first suggestion is a battery pull. Remove your battery while your phone is powered on then replace it. This should resolve your issue right away. If it doesn't, move on to an OS reload. To do this, plug your phone in to your PC and open BlackBerry Desktop Software. Once your phone has connected, click Device at the top of the software then Restore. Choose the most recent restore point and load it. If you don't have any restore points or if you wish to search for a newer version of OS, click Device then Update. If a newer version is offered and you wish to load it, go ahead. If no newer version is offered, click View Other Versions and choose the one with Currently Installed beside it.
Try these two suggestions and post back with your results.
