Battery on 9700

I have a bold 9700, I've had it for over a year now, and I never had problems with it until recently.

First it was realllly slow, so I deleted a bunch of my BBM contacts, then, whenever it would reach 50% battery, it would shut off. Now, it turns off at 70% battery..

Right when it hits 70%, powers off. I turn it back on, it shows it red, wont turn on. I plug it in, its red for about a minute, then goes back to 70%... it drives me nuts, I can only be on the phone for a few hours..

My phones always on silent, wifi/bluetooth always off, and I only stay signed into the twitter app.

What should I do? Will getting a new battery fix this?

Also, I have the old software. Do I need the new one? I still have the software that its only 6 icons on front, no different menus (favourites, etc)

Re: Battery on 9700

First things first, do not upgrade to OS 6 on a 9700. See if there's a newer version of OS 5 if you want but OS 6 will not run properly on your phone.

I suspect your issue is software-related. I'm going to recommend you reload your phone's OS by using BlackBerry Desktop Software. It doesn't sound like a problem with the battery per se, but rather with how your phone is interpreting the battery level.
