Re: BlackBerry Maps - Where is it???

UPDATE!!

The icon should be on your "ALL" page.  If it doesn't show up, reboot the phone.  If it still doesn't show up, it might take a second install to get it up and running.

It will work after the second install.

There you are!!

Re: BlackBerry Maps - Where is it???

I followed the link earlier in the thread and it worked -- the maps icon installed on my Torch (OS 6.0 build 245 IIRC -- the current ATT download), and I successfully used the application. Then I turned the unit off for the night. When it woke up the next morning, the BB Maps icon had disappeared, even from the All screen.

My guess is that when the phone boots, it searches for the icon and removes it. Yes, I can re-install the lbs_ribbon every day to re-activate the icon, but that would be a hassle (and lbs_ribbon is installed on the device now -- it's just that the icon doesn't show up).

Is there an equivalent to a command-line invocation anywhere on the device? In other words, is there a way to start an application without clicking its icon?

Re: BlackBerry Maps - Where is it???

You know what, you're right, it does remove the icon on a reboot. I just deleted the 'WHERE' app and had to do a reboot. I didn't realize it until this thread.

Hopefully someone will come up with a fix for this.

Re: BlackBerry Maps - Where is it???

Poynt did the trick -- it brings up the BB Maps program (it's also an interesting program itself). I was careful to make sure that it ran with 6.0 -- there are several apps that do not, or that don't do so well. Although Poynt uses BB Maps data, it appears to replace the BBMaps UI. Oh well, it's an alternative to Google Maps and especially to the paid AT&T application.

Thanks, Knottyrope.

Re: BlackBerry Maps - Where is it???

BB Maps needs a BlackBerry dataplan in order to work.
