Blackberry 8800 won't turn on

Hello,
My friend gave me a blackberry 8800 and he has had it for many years, it's in decent condition. Then when I got it I constantly kept on taking out the battery in and out. Now I tried charging it using a charger plug, then tried connecting it via Blackberry Desktop Manager, it says device connected, but it still doesn't turn on. When i hit the on button a red light shows for 5 seconds, then goes away and nothing else. Any help?

Re: Blackberry 8800 won't turn on

IF device manager can see it, why don't you try to do a software (OS) update? and see if that will help?

otherwise, maybe get crackUtil or JL_cmder and see if you can reset to factory specs (will erase all existing data/addresses and such. basically like it was just coming off the assembly line). then from there if that works, you can plug it in and DM should guide  you through a software update.
