I am owner of a Blackberry 9800 Torch for about a year and now it does not startup. I turned the phone off last night and this morning it does not start up. I didn't make any changes to the phone so very strange.
The behaviour is that when I take the battery out and it turns on, the load screen start but the little white line only starts a little(2mm line) and then it restarts and does the same thing and loop over and over again in this till battery runs out.
I have tired to enter Safe mode by holding in the Escape bottom when the load screen starts or when the red light turn off but it does not enter Safe mode.
Please can anybody advise how I can fix this?
Thanks in advance,

Are you able to restart your device in safe mode as shown in KB17877?
I assume, since it's caught in a reboot cycle, when you connect to the Desktop Software it doesn't take a stable connection to reinstall your software?
If that is case, remove your battery and keep it out when you connect to the Desktop Software. You will get a pop up that the device can't connect and there should be Retry, Update and Cancel buttons. Select Update and you will then be able to reinstall the current device software version.
When the load is progressing, you will see a step that says "Wait for device initialization". At this point, insert the battery and the reload should complete.

No, it doesn't take a stable connection it just keeps rebooting.
I have tried the Desktop Software upgrade route but it does not connect long enough to start the upgrade.
Any other advise?

i tried the solution that was provided. i.e. i removed the battery, connected to my laptop using a cable, clicked on update and reached till the point where it says "wait for device initialization". i inserted the battery then and then the installation stops at the point where it says "reconnecting to JVM". then an error message pops-up saying " cannont connect to device. please reconnect your device and try again."

Make sure to remove your battery from the 9800 then do the following >
If you have desktop software downloaded you will need to go into your windows files on your computer.
Go to > program files (x86) > Common Files > Research In motion > App Loader > Loader.exe
Click on the loader.exe
Once it loads up click next then plug usb cable form your computer to the 9800 it will detect it.
Keep the battery out, once it finishes loading and it goes into reboot put the battery back in.
Viola like a brand new 9800.
