Blackberry 9900 Bold malfunction

First it was my keyboard and none of the other buttons or trackpad working, then it was my lock button and convience keys not working, then my phone was locking and unlocking by itself and now the touchscreen isn't working and when I lock and unlock my phone it continuously selects blackberry app world (I don't know if it's just that spot on the screen of what) so when I close it, it just opens up again and opens random apps in the store and now the touchscreen will acknowledge I'm touching it but won't open what I'm trying to access. There was been no water damage and this has all happened in the last 24 hours. What the hell?

Re: Blackberry 9900 Bold malfunction

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness shows up, the first thing to try is a proper reboot:

  • With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.

See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

If not, then I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:

  • KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode

It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, see what happens.

If the behavior ceases, then think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.

But if the behavior continues in Safe Mode, then you may need to consider more drastic actions -- WIPE, OS Reload, BBSAK Wipe/Reload, and the "Bare Bones" OS Reload Process. To prepare, you should be sure that you have a full backup to your PC...please review the Backup link in my auto-sig on this post for instructions.

Good luck and let us know!

Hmmm...can you perhaps expand on that please? I provided you quite a bit of different things to try, and I cannot tell which of those you actually attempted, nor how each specifically worked out.

Do keep in mind, however, that if the root cause of your issues is hardware (defect, failure, fault, damage), then no amount of OS/software fixes nor internet-distance diagnosis will be of use. Only in-person evaluation by a qualified BB hardware technician can be of use if such is the case. All we can do is provide you with different things to try at the OS/software level...if you try them all and none help, then the conclusion could be a hardware problem...but, again, that can't really be self-diagnosed nor diagnosed at an internet-distance...only a conclusion can be drawn based on having tried all other things.

Good luck, and let us know if you'd like more things to attempt on your own. If you would like more things, please do however first provide full and complete feedback regarding the things already provided, so that we can avoid giving you redundant guidance.

Cheers!
