Re: Blackberry Bold 9700 White screen?!?!

Brannon, before trying anything more invasive, Do a simple reboot on the BlackBerry in this manner: With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot. A reboot in this manner is prescirbed for most gltiches and operating system errors, and you will lose no data on the device doing this.

Does this solve your issue?

Re: Blackberry Bold 9700 White screen?!?!

If your BlackBerry stays powered off with a black or white screen, follow the instructions below. The only indication of life might be the blinking red LED light in the top corner. Nothing seems to wake it up and Desktop Manager doesn't recognize any device is connected.

1) Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
2) On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):

"c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm

3) The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."
4) In the "Connection:" drop-down menu, you should see "USB-PIN: UNKNOWN". Click the "Next" button.
5) You should then see a list of applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Hit Next and Finish and you are well on your way to getting your Blackberry back to life. Just don't disconnect anything and let the lengthy process finish completely.

NOTE: If you do not see a list of applications mentioned in step 5 and instead see the message "The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator," then you must download Blackberry's Operating System for your carrier and device.
http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Operating_System_Downloads
Just select the appropriate carrier and network type, select your Blackberry model from the list and download the latest version. Install this download and follow the above steps again and you should be on the right path.

Re: Blackberry Bold 9700 White screen?!?!

Thanks for the tips. My white screen of death appeared yesterday for the first time, and a battery pull was enough to fix it. Then this morning, it came back. I followed the instructions, beginning with re-installing the Operating System and then the app loader, and the white screen of death lingers on.

The software version on my Bold 9700 is 5.0.0.979. I am wondering if something didn't install correctly that makes this happen suddenly.

Re: Blackberry Bold 9700 White screen?!?!

Hello,

I have the same phone (9700 V6.0 OS) with the same issue!!! Very frustrating!!!

The white screen started to take effect three days ago. First day was ok, the screen started to freeze then fade into a white screen. Sometimes the screen colours changed negative, yellow and other random colours.

The second and third day I've had no respones except for white screen all-round!!! There's been one/two times where the screen came around, but then just froze and faded to white screen again.

Throughout these days I had been taking out the battery, leaving it bout 1-3mins, sometimes longer, removing the SIM card and removing the Micro SD card still no change. Also I held down ALT - SHIFT - DEL for bout 10secs until the phone reset. Still no difference in userbility.

(At one point, today infact, the phone had completly reset inself!!! ALL CONTACTS/TEXTS/EMAILS GONE!!!) Took the battery out, then back in, gota white screen again.

My phone at present is still in white screen, I'm able to dial (not call) and connect with my Blackberry Desktop Software which thankfully enabled me to back-up my contacts and notes. Also was able to restore or update all data. But still no difference with screen.

I phoned my provider (Orange) very helpful (they take you through a software/Blackberry device test - For FREE, FREE phone call too - 150), but wasn't able to restore screen. So is defiantly a HARDWARE problem!!!

Question to Support Team -

1. Can you advise any other test procedures to perform?

2. How much would this cost to repair, knowing this is a hardware fault? (My phone is out of warranty, it's been over 12 months)

3. I have backed up my Contacts, where can they be viewed on my Mac?

Thank you, if any help is given, it would be very much appreciated.
