Blackberry Bold 9790 Resets itself ALOT!

I've had my phone for little over a year and it is out of its warranty period. My phone shuts off constantly (resets itself) very often. For instance, I charge my phone overnight and within an hour of usage the phone begins to reset. Sometimes it even goes into a reset cycle where it finishes loading and then shuts off again. I found that it usually shuts off when I am using an app (any app -> music, twitter, bbm, facebook etc.). It usually shuts off around 30 times a day. I tried a security wipe and even updated my os to 7.1. I went in to get it checked up but because I was out of the warranty period they only provided me with a new battery. The phone still shuts off so clearly the battery was not the issue. If anyone has any tips on how to fix this it is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

Re: Blackberry Bold 9790 Resets itself ALOT!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:

  • KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode

It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, see what happens.

If the behavior ceases, then think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.

But if the behavior continues, you may need to consider more drastic remedy attempts (e.g., WIPE, Reload, etc.). Be sure you are backing up regularly now, just in case...you can find a link to instructions in my auto-sig on this post.

Good luck and let us know!

Re: Blackberry Bold 9790 Resets itself ALOT!

I just put it in safe mode and it still resets. I think I may have to go to a third-party cell phone repair store because I have already tried resetting it and security wiping it. Thanks for the help though.

You did? Hmmm...I must have mis-read your first post...

Much different than what you've said this time...

A completely valid decision.

Good luck!
