Blackberry Bold 9900 no sound from earpiece after upgrade to 7 - but loudspeaker works OK

 


Hi everyone,

 

I'm an almost total Blackberry newbie so be gentle with me.

 

My problem is very easy, I have an almost new 9900, before upgradeing to the latest BB OS I could hear the caller, after the upgrade I can't. If I flip it onto loudspeaker I can hear them OK.

 

I have tried a soft and hard reset to no avail. 

 

I have now also downgraded the Bold to the earliest version 7.0 Bundle 1465 and this has made no difference.

 

Any clues anyone ?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:

  • KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode

It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, see what happens.

If the behavior ceases, then think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.



But given what you describe, I suspect that the behavior will continue in Safe Mode. In which case, then you may need to consider more drastic actions -- WIPE, OS Reload, BBSAK Wipe/Reload, and the "Bare Bones" OS Reload Process. To prepare, you should be sure that you have a full backup to your PC...please review the Backup link in my auto-sig on this post for instructions.

You may also need the use of these tricks:

 


 

Given how new your device is, you may instead opt to not attempt any self diagnostics or repairs. Rather, you may choose to exercise your warranty coverage, and seek formal support there.

Thanks for the reply. 

In the title you will note that it worked OK until I upgraded to 7.1 - until then it was fine and dandy.

 

I will try what you suggest and report back

Blackberry = hopeless - the worst support next to LG (who are so diabolically useless it defies belief) I have ever had..

 

The Phone was bought from O2 who are also totally useless beyond words

 

They will replace it in - get this!
