Blackberry Curve - Device Password Issue

I have a Blackberry Curve and for the life of me can't remember the password for the device.

I have gone under "options", "security options", and then "general settings".

It's set to "enabled".  When I try to set it to "disabled", its asking me for my password and I can't remember it.

I only went to this section of the phone to see if I even had a password originally because when I try to link it to the Mediasync, it's asking me for one.

Does anyone know how I can retrieve my password or where I might find it?  I have 10 tries and have used up 6 already.  The 5th try it asked me to type in "blackberry".

Thanks in advance.

Re: Blackberry Curve - Device Password Issue

Make full device backup with BlackBerry Desktop Software (BB Desktop Manager).

In case you have used all attempts and the device memory are erased restore data you have backed up and you'll get additional attempts and so on.

Unfortunately there is no way to retrieve forgotten password.

Re: Blackberry Curve - Device Password Issue

So if you cannot remember the password, you've got to keep guessing in perpetuity?  My BB Bold already has a white screen that says "Reload Software 507."  Desktop Manager will not let me load the application b/c I don't know the device password. I don't recall assigning a device password.  Now what?

Re: Blackberry Curve - Device Password Issue

BB's do not perpetually prompt for the password. Rather, after the pre-programmed number of failed attempts (usually 10), the device wipes itself clean of all user data. Sometimes, it wipes so well that the OS is trashed...requiring a reload...and is indicated by the 507 error code. See this KB:

  • KB02792 A 507 error message appears on the BlackBerry smartphone while upgrading BlackBerry Device Software
