Blackberry Curve slowed to a halt

My blackberry curve was working fine.  I activated my enterprise service, loaded Epocrates (a medication database software) and sync'd with my computer for the first time.  After all this, the blackberry is constantly working (i.e. The hourglass icon is constantly appearing on the screen) this causes the device to stop and it even prevents me from answering a call! The device is effectively paralyzed.

Does anyone know why this is happening? Could it be because I don't have an extra memory card?

You may have to remove the battery, count to 10, put it back in and let the phone boot up.
