Blackberry ID

I just updated my BBM and I cant remember my password.  The problem is that the email attached to the ID account is no longer valid.  I need to be able to access my BBM contacts as quickly as possible for work purposes, how can I update my ID or who can I contact.

Thanks

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

Given that you do not have access to the email account associated to your BB ID, your challenge is large. None of the automated recovery methods can work for you as they all require non-BB access to that email account. The only hope is human intervention. But, that as well may be challenging.

To receive that, you must ring up your mobile service provider and convince them to escalate your case up to RIM. Further, you must convince RIM to provide you with a solution -- which likely will either be resetting your current BB ID so that you can again access it or having you create a new BBID and they will manually move your records over. Note that I have no idea if they will be willing to do this, but there is no other way that I know of to retain your prior records.

Another method to seek help is something called incident support, but it costs to just ask the initial question, since you are bypassing the contract you signed upon purchase. If you wish to investigate that, you can review it here:

Yet another method may exist...if you, prior to updating BBM, had ever exported your BBM contacts to a file on your BB, then you could conceivably fall back your BBM version and re-import those:

  • KB20554 How to back up and restore the BlackBerry Messenger contact list

All in all, please understand that BBs are the most secure mobile devices available. As such, they depend on the human component to maintain that security. When the human component fails, then the automated methods of recovery cannot work, and indeed there may be no hope at all.

Good luck!

Re: Blackberry ID

I appreciate your advice.  I managed to back track through old emails etc and located the password.  PHEW

Re: Blackberry ID

Well that is interesting...since you first said that email account was no longer valid. I suppose you must have had an archive of the old emails, so that was indeed lucky for you.

You should immediately change the associated email address, though, to one that is both valid and that you have non-BB access to:

Good luck!
