Blackberry OS6

I downloaded the OS6 to my Blackberry Bold 9700 at the weekend.  Biggest mistake I ever made, it is extremely power hungry.  Can I go back to the OS5.  I absolutely loved my Blackberry up to this, battery lasted for days.  Now I can almost see the power draining away.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!

An old saying...

  • The best device for anyone is the one they become the most used to

I might venture to guess that if you give yourself time, you might grow to like it. The battery issues might calm down after a time...you might try reading through these forums to see how other users might have addressed your situation.

But, if you insist, from a PC, you can install any OS package to a BB via this procedure:

Note that while written for "reload", it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. You can even use a different carriers OS package by simply inserting, between steps 1 and 2, the deletion, on your PC, of a file named VENDOR.XML. Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.

If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

  • KB19915How to perform a clean reload of BlackBerry smartphone application software using BlackBerry Desktop Software

Good luck and let us know!

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!

I'm not quite sure what your issue is. You say you want to upgrade to OS6? But it says there are no updates? What, exactly, is saying that? How, exactly, are you making this attempt? I can think of half a dozen ways to make the attempt, so you need to be precise.

Also, have you tried the method laid out above?

Good luck and let us know!

It applies to my bold 9700. Kept saying no update available. Why is that so?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!

Please read my prior post...your information is just as vague as the poster I replied to there. More details are needed from you...otherwise we are just guessing.

Thanks.

Re: Blackberry OS6

Hi there, who is your carrier?  It is possible that your carrier simply might not yet have OS 6 available for your device yet.  Note:  if the OS is available from your carrier, you can also upgrade by manually downloading and installing the OS file to your computer.  You can do so by clicking on your carrier in this link and then select your device from the drop down menu once you've entered your carrier's BlackBerry download page.  The link to find your carriers is:

I hope that helps!

Re: Blackberry OS6

In my opinion OS6 is complete garbage, and like a customer of mine with over 200 Blackberry phones in the Corportion I will be going back to OS5. Cant believe they would put out something like this, my home screen is unusable due to the multi-tone configuration, and I cant even read a number on the screen as I type it in due to the extremely tiny size of the numbers. Issues are too numerous to list, and doesnt deserve the time to bother, will be switching to a competitor once my Contract expires.

Thoughly disgusted

Re: Blackberry OS6

100% agree with Tim, so poor - far to much competion out there for BB to release such rubbish on top of poor battery service which now last even less and constantly crashes - dissappointed to say that im now looking at a return to the Iphone or may consider HTC...

Re: Blackberry OS6

I am having the same problems since upgrading last week, terrible battery life, lagging, hanging, slow performance.
I have uninstalled every app, including most of the OS6 included apps. No change. Disabled search for most catagories. No change. Rebooted/pulled battery many times, no change. very disappointed.
