I have a blackberry pearl which hardly has any signal no matter where i am,
My brother has a curve and on the same network and always has coverage where i dont.
My pearl has been in for repair once (the buttons on the front came off) so i think this may have voided my warrenty
Is there any fix that will sort this?

When you are in an area that you do not have good coverage try reinserting the battery and registering in the Host Routing Table as shown here: http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/KB00014.
If you feel it my be device related I would suggest backing up and completing a clean reload of the device software and test before restoring any data as shown here: http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/KB11320
