Blackberry Protect and Z10 Question

I've had a torch for the last 2 years. I just lost it yesterday and have been backing up the contacts and info on Blackberry Protect. I know you need a blackberry device to restore info from Blackberry Protect. If i purchase the Z10, will I still be able to restore contacts or does it have to be on a 7.1 or less device?

Re: Blackberry Protect and Z10 Question

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

At present, BB10 devices can only use BB Protect for "location" services...not for backup, restore, etc.

Good luck!

ah, thanks. So I'm guessing I'll need to get a different blackberry to restore my contacts??

Re: Blackberry Protect and Z10 Question

If your only backup source is Protect, then you'd indeed need a pre-BB10 device to obtain that data. Then, you would use the Desktop Software to backup to the PC, and then you can migrate to a BB10 device with that data. See the link in my auto-sig on this post for full Backup recommendations and instructions (pre-BB10). See also some sticky threads in the BB10 forums for migration instructions.

Good luck!

Re: Blackberry Protect and Z10 Question

I think so, but it's not been a critical aspect for me since I keep my data OTA synced via Outlook.com. But, the last time I did a wired OS update, I did perform the restore and my PIM data was there much quicker than I'd have expected if the data had to re-sync OTA.
