Blackberry Torch 9800

I am new to this... so bear with me if I make a mistake.... I have a torch 9800 and I am wanting to make it a hot spot so that I can allow the kids to hook up their computers to use the internet at the lake ... Is this possible? or do i have to get a newer phone?

It's not available on the 9800.  You need the 9810.

To add...the actual restriction is to BB OS level:

  • KB31857 How to setup and manage a Mobile Hotspot Connection

HotSpot became available with BBOS 7.1. So, if your device is not capable of running that OS level, then you do not have the capability for HotSpot. As I recall, OS development for the 9800 stopped in the 6.0 range, but you can check for sure via the official download portal:

Further, HotSpot also requires an adequate data plan from your mobile service provider it order to function. Hence, there are two prerequisites for HotSpot:

  1. OS 7.1
  2. Adequate Carrier Data Plan

Good luck!
